Memorial Day means...

Happy Memorial Day is about remembering. It has ‘memory’ in it. It’s easy to forget the price that was paid for our freedoms. Memorial Day is when almost 1.5 million men and women have died so that you and I might enjoy our freedoms. I'm sure every country has a day to celebrate freedom. Freedom is a gift. The truth is freedom if we know Jesus is in our hearts. Governments can change, and freedoms can be lost, but no one can take the spirit of the Lord from you - He gives you freedom in the heart. In America, some commemorate by recognizing family members who battled in different wars to keep America free. Others celebrate by coming together with friends or family having picnics, barbeques, spending time at the lake, or resting. Most businesses shut down on these days except for retail. Some go shopping. When was Memorial Day recognized? On May 30, 1868, the day was designated as ‘Decoration Day’ – a day for placing flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers throughout the United States.

‘Decoration Day’ gradually became known as Memorial Day, and soldiers who died in other wars were honored. It quickly became a day to remember everyone who had died in defense of our country. In 1971, the United States Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday on the last Monday of May. I know this email goes to many countries. All Americans, I wish you a safe and memorable day celebrating our freedom in our land. For everyone else, let's celebrate our release in Christ in our hearts. So, on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., let's take a minute to thank the Lord for allowing His son to die for us and give us the promise of eternal life.
