How a Christian Can Protect Themselves from Astral Projection, Spiritual Intrusion, and overcome spiritual attacks.
In today’s spiritually open culture, many engage in occult practices like astral projection — the alleged act of leaving one’s physical body to travel in the spirit realm.
While some view this as harmless or even enlightening, Scripture warns us against divination, sorcery, and unauthorized spiritual interaction (Deuteronomy 18:10–12). Christians must recognize that such activity is not of God and can open doors to demonic influence. If you suspect someone is attempting to reach or influence you through the spirit realm, whether through astral projection or other occult means, there are biblical ways to protect yourself.
1. Understand the Authority You Have in Christ
The first and most crucial step is to know your identity and authority in Jesus
Christ. At salvation, believers are seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), and Jesus has given authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19). This means that no demonic force, including spirits sent through astral projection, has legitimate access to your life unless given through fear, ignorance, or open doors.
Luke 10:19 – “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
Stand on this promise. Speak it out loud in prayer when you feel spiritually attacked or oppressed.
2. Guard Your Heart and Mind
Spiritual intrusions and spiritual attacks often begin with mental confusion, fear, or overwhelming thoughts. The Bible calls believers to take every thought captive and submit it to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). This isn’t merely about positive thinking — it’s a spiritual discipline that ensures your mind remains aligned with God’s truth. Hebrews 5:5 says to ... discern the good and evil. That means your thoughts may not be yours. Satan throws fiery darts, and Ephesians 6:16 says to use the shield of faith that puts out the fiery darts. This helps overcome spiritual attacks.
Philippians 4:7 promises that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Invite God’s peace daily and reject every thought or spiritual impression that does not align with His Word.
3. Close Open Doors
Spiritual access is often gained through open doors (Prov. 26:2, "A curse causeless cannot come."). These can include fear, unforgiveness, involvement in occult practices (even unknowingly), unrepentant sin, and generational curses. The enemy seeks legal rights to influence and oppress. If you've been involved in the occult, take the time to repent.
Ephesians 4:27 says, “Do not give the devil a foothold.”
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any doors you may have opened. Repent, renounce, and close them in the name of Jesus. For example, if you have previously dabbled in New Age practices, even unintentionally, renounce them aloud and declare your life fully submitted to Christ.
4. Use the Armor of God Daily
Ephesians 6:10–18 outlines the Armor of God, which is essential for spiritual protection. Each piece is symbolic but spiritually powerful: truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God.
Ephesians 6:11 – “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”
Pray daily through each part of the armor. Speak Scripture aloud — especially the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (v. 17). The enemy cannot stand against the truth of God when it is declared in faith. You must see God is greater than your enemy. The enemy projects fear, so stay out of fear. The enemy's weapon is fear.
5. Apply the Blood of Jesus
The blood of Jesus is not just a symbol of salvation but a powerful spiritual weapon. Revelation 12:11 says, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”
Plead the blood of Jesus over your home, mind, body, and spirit. Declare it in prayer: “I plead the blood of Jesus over my mind, dreams, and spiritual atmosphere. No spirit not from God may enter or influence me, in Jesus’ name.”
6. Surround Yourself with Worship and the Word
Like other occult practitioners, astral projectors often seek quiet or spiritually unguarded spaces. Worship drives out the enemy and invites the Holy Spirit to dwell. Read aloud or play Scripture in your home. Keep praise music or Scripture-based songs going in the background. Darkness cannot exist where light is consistently shining.
Psalm 22:3 says God inhabits the praises of His people. Make your life a place of habitation for the Lord.
Must have a prayer lifestyle by spending time with the Lord.
8. Discern and Rebuke Spiritual Intrusions and Spiritual Attacks
Sometimes, God will allow you to sense spiritual activity. This is not to induce fear but to prompt prayer and spiritual warfare. If you feel a presence or hear voices not from God, rebuke them in the name of Jesus.
James 4:7 – “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Say aloud: “I resist every spirit that is not from God. I command every intruding spirit to leave now, in the name of Jesus Christ. You have no authority here.”
Final Thoughts
A Christian’s best defense against spiritual intrusion is a life fully surrendered to Jesus, bathed in Scripture, and guarded by prayer. While the world may flirt with dangerous spiritual practices like astral projection, believers walk in a higher authority. Fear not — you are covered, protected, and victorious through Christ.
